The Snow Leopard Lodges provide a unique, high-altitude wilderness experience that requires specific preparation and a flexible mindset.
To maximise your experience, we highly recommend a minimum stay of 6 days. This duration is recommended for two primary reasons:
Wildlife Probability: Staying longer significantly increases your chances of encountering the elusive snow leopard, which is one of the rarest big cats on earth.
Full Immersion: A 6-day stay ensures enough time to fully immerse yourself in the “life-changing experience” of the trans-Himalayan landscape and culture. A basic level of fitness is essential, particularly for the walking portions of the trip.
Wildlife Viewing Expectations
The Element of Luck: Despite a “fantastic track record” and the use of expert trackers and high-quality optics, spotting a snow leopard is ultimately a matter of luck.
Dynamic Daily Plans: There are no fixed safari timings. Every day starts at dawn with spotters dispersing into the mountains; the daily plan is then built in real-time based on their findings.
Observation Methods: Wildlife viewing occurs via dedicated vehicles and on foot. While vehicles provide easy access to habitats, walking allows for a more immersive experience. In the summer, tracking becomes more foot-based as the search area expands into high pastures beyond the reach of roads.
