The Gateway: Leh, Ladakh
Regardless of where you are traveling from in India or the world, your primary travel hub for reaching the lodges is the city of Leh.
Reaching the Snow Leopard by AIR
Lodge begins with a flight to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) in Leh, the primary air gateway to the Ladakh region. Direct domestic flights are most frequently available from New Delhi, with additional daily or weekly services from Mumbai, Chandigarh, Jammu, and Srinagar. International travellers typically fly into major Indian hubs like Delhi or Mumbai before connecting to a domestic flight to Leh. We recommend booking early morning flights to avoid afternoon wind delays and advise checking for seasonal schedule adjustments, as winter services are less frequent. ==>>
By AIR
Upon landing an acclimatisation period in Leh is extremely critical to prepare for the lodge’s high-altitude environment, which sits between 3,500m and 4,000m. Once you are ready, your all-inclusive package includes transfers for the two-to-three-hour drive west to our lodges in Ulley or Mangyu. Please be mindful of stringent airport security; drones and satellite phones are prohibited, and all electronics must be packed in hand luggage when departing Leh. Flying into Leh (3500 mtr) is an unforgettable experience, offering dramatic views of the Himalaya. Drive to our lodges traverses through stunning mountain roads.
Arrival by Road (June – October)
For those seeking a dramatic entrance, two main overland routes are available:
Srinagar – Leh Highway: This 420 km journey takes 12-16 hours and is highly recommended for gradual acclimatisation. It passes through the gateway mountain pass Zoji La (3,528 m) and is generally more comfortable for first-time visitors. ==>>
By Road
Manali – Leh Highway: This ~475 km route is ideal for adventure seekers, crossing high passes such as Tanglang La (5,328 m)1. However, its steep altitude gain makes it less ideal for initial acclimatization.
Zanskar Routes: Off-beat explorers may opt for remote, rough routes through Padum, which require a high-clearance 4×4 vehicle and careful planning.
The Final Leg to the lodge
Regardless of how you reach Leh, our all-inclusive packages include transfers to the lodges. We provide a comfortable two-to-three-hour drive west from Leh into the heart of the mountains, where our expert trackers will meet you.
Getting to the lodge is straightforward. Whether you fly in quickly or drive via the scenic mountain highways, a stop in Leh to rest and acclimatise is essential before continuing your journey, ensuring you arrive well-prepared for the experience ahead.
Plan in advance
Securing a spot at the lodge is like joining a small, exclusive expedition; because of the high demand and limited rooms, the process requires careful, step-by-step planning and commitment long before you ever set foot on the mountain.
Programs are tailored to the length of stay and guest preferences, we strongly recommend a minimum of six days to allow for proper immersion and to increase the probability of a sighting the elusive cat and other wildlife.
